As the cannabis industry keeps growing\nworldwide, and more countries are legalizing cannabis, professional growers can\nnow decide if they want to cultivate commercially for the recreational market\nor the medicinal one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recreational market uses cannabis\nfor fun, relaxation, or similar. The medicinal market uses the cannabis or its\nderivatives to alleviate or target certain diseases. But to be able to\ncultivate for the medicinal market there are very strict quality standards that\nmust be followed based on the certifications GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)\nand GACP (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an article in hortidaily.com,\nthey confirm that \u201c these certifications\noutline minimum requirements for growers so that they create high quality,\nconsistent products which will later pass authorization by agencies that are in\ncharge of licensing the manufacture and sale of pharmaceutical products.\u201d<\/em>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cannapro.co, a company which\nspecializes in the design and construction of commercial greenhouses and GMP\ncertified facilities, working with Conviron, advised us on the difference\nbetween these 2 certifications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GMP facilities and the difference with\na greenhouse GACP, that never ever a greenhouse can be certified GMP, why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The basic argument is: precision\n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facilities considered GMP certified are\nlaboratories, where medicines are developed<\/strong>\n\/ produced<\/strong> \/ inspected<\/strong> \/ packed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First of all, the GMP certification is\nnot a “primary characteristic of the equipment or facilities”, since\nit is about certifying “a productive process as a whole”. It is true\nthat one of the aspects to be considered in GMP certifications is that the facilities\nand equipment involved in the production process can be validated from the\npoint of view of their correct installation and operation in accordance with\nspecifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what is known as IQ \/ PQ\ncertifications. These certifications are made during the installation process\n(in fact by the installer) according to the installation requirements and the\nmanufacturer’s specifications and tolerances, measured after the start-up, and\nin accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, it is also interesting,\nfrom the point of view of the subsequent GMP certification, to obtain the\noperator training certification (OQ), which is neither more nor less than the\ntraining course for the operators, after which it is delivered a document\nsigned by the person who provides the training, and by the trained operators,\nin which the topics covered during the training are collected. All these\nprocesses have an additional cost to the equipment, and must always be\naccompanied by the required formal documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another important point, especially in\npharmaceutical companies, and more especially if it is behind FDA, is the\ncertification of data integrity. It refers fundamentally to the analytical\nprocesses that must be incorporated as necessary or mandatory for the guarantee\nof quality and \/ or safety. For example the absence of heavy metal residues,\nherbicide or pesticide in the product, before leaving the facility (eg GCMS,\nLCMS, ICP). In these cases, computers that give a digital value, through a\ncomputer, must comply with the regulation 21 CFR part 11. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This heaviness does not apply if the\nsystems that gives the results through a printer. For this reason, although it\nseems incredible, in many pharma laboratories, there are still teams with\nticket printers. Problem: there are almost no more of these available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
